Cabrillo Beach Aquarium

We went to Cabrillo Beach Aquarium in San Pedro. Its a working aquarium and they do a lot of research and study there on different species. They even have a room that is just for growing babies, the Baby Room is what they call it.
We started off by going to the main part of the aquarium. This fish below, I have to say, is the most UGLIEST fish I have ever ever seen! Its called a football fish and only 20 of them have ever been found. It lives in the very deepest depths of the ocean. Its a good thing for it, since it so dang ugly!

Football Fish

They had several animals that were stuffed and on display. Jalyse actually took this picture of this Sea Lion. It also taught you the different between a Sea Lion and a Seal. To be honest it was kinda sad seeing them all stuffed, but interesting at the same time.

This is an otter that was stuffed too, Ellie took this picture.

This is a Harbor Seal.

Besides having the stuffed stuff, there were a lot of tanks full of different animals. This is an octopus, I thought it looked so interesting I had to get a picture. I have to say it was kinda creepy looking!

Octopus

We saw a lot of different kinds of star fish. There were tanks full of them. They even had pink ones! This was a huge star fish we saw.
They also had huge lobsters. I have never seen a lobster that big, but I forgot to get a picture of it. (Ok there is a learning experience coming, Ok I know, but I really found it interesting)
Come to find out later, that lobster was like 50 to 60 years old. To get a lobster, that is even big enough to eat, they are usually 10 to 12 years old. That is why lobster is so expensive. When we went into the baby room we found out that they have tried to breed them. They even have a ton of babies in tanks. They are a tiny little speck, no lye. They can only get them to reach 9 months old, then they all die. One the many things they are trying to figure out why. They had baby sea horse's that were so cute and a bunch of other baby animals that they are growing.

In the common area, between the different buildings, there are a bunch of things that you can take pictures in, so yes we went tourist happy and took a bunch of them. Even John got into the act.

Help Don't Eat Me!!

The last thing we did, was go into a tide pool where the kids could touch different Fish. They had some star fish, sting rays and a bunch of other things. They had baby sharks behind the pool that were swimming around. They breed sharks there too. It was a neat experience for the kids.

The shark pictures are hilarious! Looks like a cool place, but I gotta say, that football fish is one ugly fish.
