This year Jaden was a 12 year old scout and got to go to scout camp. They went to Camp Hunt up by Bear Lake. He was gone for a whole week! He has never been away from home that long. He was a little home sick, but for the most part I think he did great! I didn't think I would miss him, but I ended up missing my boy! We sent him some letters and some snacks with a leader that went up, but other then that I didn't hear from him. From what he tells me, (He didn't take any pictures and lets face it, he is 12 he doesn't say much!) he had a great time. They had tons and tons of food to eat and the showers were private. (He was a little nervous about the showers) He changed a few merit badges that he was doing when he got there. One of them that he changed to was wilderness Survival. You have to make a shelter out of your surroundings, but you can't cut anything down. He did the patch with two buddies, but there were so many people doing it there wasn't enough stuff for everyone to make a shelter. They failed! Can you believe that! His leader had to go and complain. They got permission to do it again, the next night, in their camp site. They had their sleeping bag and that was it. You had to make their own shelter. They got a shelter put together but not in time for the rain! It decided to pour that night, so they slept in the rain. He got it this time, just a miserable night. One other thing he told me was that he tried to swim in the lake for something, I think it was 50 laps. He didn't make all 50, the water was way to choppy and the waves were to high. He did try and I was proud of him that he gave it an effort. They had canoe races too. It was a good experience for him and I know he had a ton of fun.
He earned 5 merit badges
Environmental Science
Leather work
Oceanography
Wilderness Survival
Emergency Preparedness,
that he will get when he finishes his First Aid.
(Just a word to you scouter people coming up. Apparently you have to have first aid before you can get your Emergency Preparedness. No one every told me that, so I am passing it along to someone that might not know that either!) Way to go Jaden! That is a lot to get done in one week!
These pictures are of him receiving his awards for the camp.
