Oquirrh Mountain Utah Temple Dedication

August 23, 2009

We had an opportunity to take Jaden and Jalyse to the Oquirrh Mountain Temple Dedication. They both were old enough, so we thought it would be a good idea to take them to the dedication. Ellie had to stay with Grandma Carol Ann. Thanks mom! She didn't understand why she couldn't go, but once we explained to her she had to be 8 and baptized she was ok.
I was surprised to learn that each session was different. I really thought it was one dedication and they re-broadcast it. I was wrong. The speakers really focused on going to the temple and getting there often. A gentleman spoke about a family that was from South America. They had to travel along distance to get to the temple. They made a trip to the temple in the dead of winter. They took their 3 children with them to be sealed. On their return trip the children all got sick and died. They buried them along the way. How terribly Sad! Another story that stuck in my mind was about another family who had 10 children. They were only able to take 4 of them to the temple to be sealed to them. They didn't have enough money to take all of their children. They were trying to save up more money to go. When this man got home from visiting the Country the man came from he told his family about the man and his plight to get his whole family to the temple. With out telling her dad, his daughter, decided that as a Seminary they would have a fund raiser. They would earn money for this gentleman and other members of the church in that country to attend the temple. Those are just a few stories that stuck with me that day. How blessed we are to have so many temples around. These poor people have been through so much to get to the temple. It just reminded me of how lucky I am and that I need to get to the temple more often! It was a very good dedication and I am glad we all got to go.
My mom had Ellie draw a picture of a temple. That will be a nice memory for her to keep. I even got Ellie a white handkerchief.

It was a nice experience and I am glad we were able to take Jaden and Jalyse.

You must have been in the same session as me. Jared took the girls in the morning, then I went in the afternoon. I remember those stories. Wasn't it awesome?
