We went on vacation to San Diego. We stayed a week and then went and spent a few days with John's mom. We got into town and checked into our hotel and then we went to the Mormon Battalion Museum. It has just been re-done and re-opened in January. I have never been there before. We all have to say that it is one of the best Mormon museums that we have ever been too. It was very interactive.
The first stop was in the foyer with about 8 pictures on the wall. Sorry I didn't take any pictures of that. The guide started to talk to you and then one of the pictures sneezed. Scared the lady standing next to it! The pictures started talking and interacting with our guide. They began to tell their story. The next room we went into you were on the trail. It had tents up and you sat on logs. The images of the story were on the tents. Then after they told the story of how they were asked by the government to be in the army you moved to the store. They had to travel to pick up the supplies they needed.

The guide talked to you for a little bit, then there was a knock on the window. It became alive with the characters we had seen before and they started to talk to you and our guide again.
Jaden got called up to put on the uniform the men wore. He put almost everything on him.
They had to purchase there own uniform, but most of them didn't. They used their own clothes and sent the money back home to help their families cross the plains. Some women and children came along with them. The other stuff they were give weighed about 40 pounds. Jaden said the gun was really heavy. It must have been a lot of work to carry all of that stuff! After the store we were sent into a room that had a huge screen. It was an outdoor setting that continued the story of the Battalion. Some of them had gotten sick and were sent off to winter and the other carried on. Some of the died from their sickness. The room shock when they were getting invaded by the cattle. They said it was nice to have some food, they were out of it. That is the only "Deadly" in counter they had on the whole trip. There was one final room you went into and it explained all the things the battalion did after they reached California.
Then you went into a museum and were able to see some of the things that were used.
We also got to take the picture that is at the very top. They put it on their website too! After the museum we went outside. The girls could do some old pioneer chores. They also learned how they made bricks, the Battalion introduced brick making to the people in California.

We also got to pan for gold. Ellie got to keep some of the fools gold. They had a blast doing it.
This was a great place to visit. The kids had a blast. It was really interesting to learn all that the Mormon Battalion actually did. It is defiantly worth the visit if you are ever in San Diego.
