We wanted to go to different places that we hadn't been to in St George, so we kinda went on a Mormon Pioneer trek of our own. We already went to Cove Fort and now we went to Santa Clara to visit the Jacob Hamblin Home.
This house was built up on a hill after the fort was destroyed by a flood. Jacob had numerous wives, I don't remember how many. The front is a parlor and then on either side is exact rooms for two of his wives. Come to find out, our former Gov Levitt, his relative was one of the wives...interesting. This picture is one of the bedrooms the wives stayed in. Jacob was one that was put in charge of Indian relations, so he traveled a lot.
This is John and Jaden in the front parlor
We learned that the Indians respected him and he respected them. He didn't live here too long and was gone to another territory to help the Indians. I have to say it was really interesting to see how they made the houses back then and to see how people lived. Very interesting history lesson. We just had to take a picture of this cat. He just showed up out of nowhere. I call him no tail. She the stub? This little guy was the first of our cat encounters. Everywhere we went, after the Hamblin house, there was a cat. Kinda strange?
This was outside the house. They had farmland and actually had cotton growing. It was interesting to see. We had a great trip exploring and we were off to see some more historic sites in town.
