Cove Fort

For fall break we headed down for a few days of fun in the sun in St George. We always pass Cove Fort, on the way down their, but haven't stopped in years. We decided that it would be a fun thing to take the family too, so we put it on the trips agenda. John and I first went here on our Honeymoon; almost 17 years ago. (boy does time fly!) We had taken Jaden, but I don't know if the girls had ever been.
I love architecture and it was amazing how they were able to build this building. Some of it has been restored, but a lot of it was original. The kids got to see a glimpse into what the people lived like and what the kids had to do. We were really hoping they would catch on to what the kids had to do to help out! The lady told us the kids were in charge of making butter every day. 25 pounds! We have had an issue with doing chores, so I told them they have it a lot easier then the kids back in the 1800's.

We were able to take a tour and find out a lot of interesting information. This is the parlor, the first room we toured.

Relatives of Pres Hinckley actually ran the Fort. This was a place travelers could come and stay and eat. I always marvel at how they did things back then.

This is just an out building. They had a full working farm. They still grow things on it today. It was interesting to see.
My cute kids!

This is my cute Ellie in the Kitchen. It was amazing how they saved everything and used everything down to a worn out rug. They would recycle as much as they could.
We were able to go up on top and have a look around. The holes where they made to shoot out of our still there. They were afraid they were going to have Indian problems, but they were fair and peaceful, so there were never any problems.

We had a great tour and I think the kids really enjoyed it. I know it was a different experience for them.
This is the first thing we got to tour. A cabin and I don't remember who owned it. It was very small. It had a large family that lived there. I think she said 6 kids. It was so small! It makes you appreciate what you have! If you ever get a chance, you must stop by and have a Tour.
