Cabo San Lucas

Open Letter to my Amigos in Cabo:

I was really excited to get off the boat today and see what your beautiful city had to offer. You have a beautiful city that I might want to come back and visit if you do one thing for me... LEAVE ME ALONE!!! You can't enjoy your lovely town when you keep getting bombarded by people asking you for something every 5 seconds! No lie people, you couldn't walk anywhere in your town. Please get some manners and stop pestering people! I know the economy is bad for everyone, but realize if you keep bugging people they won't come back! Please don't take my stuff unless I ask for help just because you want a tip and please don't try and sell me something when I am sitting on the beach trying to relax! I know everyone needs to make money, but you have all crossed the line!

Sincerely the person who kept saying no Gracia's when all I wanted to do was scream at you to leave me alone! Stop invading my space!

Sorry had to get my little rant out of the way! Be warned they will not leave you alone for a water taxi, buying something or begging. I was not prepared for the experience....Now onto what we did :)

The first stop on our adventure in Mexico was Cabo San Lucas.
We couldn't dock in the port, so you had to take a small boat into the dock. We had planned on going snorkeling and walking around to see what they had to offer. John borrowed some snorkeling gear from a co-worker, so we just needed to find a beach to go too. We didn't' realize we were going to have to get a water taxi. Apparently they all let you know that in droves as you got off the boat! We finally decided on a boat, after haggling the price down, and were put on the boat. (Another tip you have to haggle for everything, never pay full price) We sat for 10 or so minutes waiting for them to take us out. By this time, I was very uncomfortable and my nerves were going.. I am apparently not use to all the people coming at you. I was just praying we could leave and that they would come back and get us. While we were waiting there were pelicans everywhere. They called them Cabo Chickens, since there are so many of them. We were also able to see a sea lion that was just swimming around the dock area. We were finally off to the beach. We had heard about a beach, lovers beach and divorce beach. Lovers beach is the side that you want to swim on, divorce beach is on the Pacific Ocean part and it will take you out to sea. Hence lovers and divorce. They had also told us about another one that was good for snorkeling, Pelican Rock. Our guide, Danielle, took us on a little tour before we had to decide where to go. We went past lovers beach and saw a famous arch, a cave that he said was lovers cave, 2 come in and 3 come out. ha ha. and then we saw a rock in the alcove. I am not sure if it was connected to the rock wall or just in the middle but it was full of sea lions! They were all having a grand time sun bathing. It was really neat to see so many of them in one place. You just couldn't get to close to them and well the smell...
We decided to go to Pelican Rock and give it a try. The water was really choppy and I am not use to snorkeling in choppy water. I have only been once, in Cozumel, and the water was pristine. After my initial freak out, yes I did freak out the last time too, so out of my comfort zone, I was off and ready to explore the waters. There were quit a few fish, some large ones, but we didn't see anything else. I do have pictures of our adventure, but they are all on an underwater camera and well we didn't use it all, so I still have pictures to take before I can get them developed. I will have to post pictures of us later.
Our taxi came back to get us, sigh of relief! and we were off to another beach to let us off. We got off the boat and started walking. We had a bought a book on board, and it was suppose to have free stuff you could get at every port. We were off on a scavenger hunt to find it. (A side note, it is crap and not worth it, so don't buy the Port and shopping book) We looked around the shops, then we were off to find the church I wanted to look at. I am an architecture junkie and love to look at things. We had our map and wandered off to find it. (Really this was the only time that I was left alone) We found the church and I really wanted to go look around it, but a guy was hanging out in front of it and I didn't feel comfortable going over. We found a little plaza, park area and went to look around. We found a museum so we decided that we would check it out. I was really interested in seeing the culture, but it turned out to be a museum about the start of the world, dinosaurs on up, nothing to do with Cabo Culture. We didn't stay long. We wandered back down into town and looked around at some more shops. Be prepared everyone will come at you if you step into the flea markets. Just a warning if you ever go :) They had some cute jewelry for the girls, that I didn't end up buying and dang I wish I had. I couldn't find it again and they had some whistles that some ladies were selling as you walked around that I wish I had bought too. We never saw any of them again. So the rule on shopping, if you see something you like buy it! I never found the stuff again. Needless to say my eyes were opened wide in Cabo and if we go back I will have to do some research and go to some other part of Cabo then where we were at. It was a beautiful place...and snorkeling, seeing the sea lions, were all great adventures.

Mazatlan was next up.
