Mazatlan

Mazatlan is a very beautiful place, it was a little bit more old world then Cabo, but it still had American influences. I was feeling very uneasy about Mazatlan, after my experience in Cabo, so I just didn't know what to expect. I am happy to report you don't get mobbed in Mazatlan! Only if you go into the flee markets, but hey I can handle that. When we were flying out to LA, we meet two couples from Utah, going on the same cruise. We kept seeing them on the ship. We met Mike and Kim again and decided to share a taxi ride into town. They have been to Mazatlan 4 other times and we asked if we could just tag along with them. Her parents had a time share there. They let us tag along. Oh thank you Mike and Kim! It really put my mind at ease and I had the best time!
They have these taxi's that are open roofed and are these little cars. They are hard to explain, I should have taken a picture, but man they are fun to ride in! The drivers are a bit crazy, so watch out :)

We went to the shopping district, yes the tourist trap. We needed to get a few things on our little scavenger hunt of so called nice free things, ha ha. We didn't stay long. We did take a few pictures, as we were wondering around. Senior Frogs is a big shopping area and apparently in another location a big drinking place.

This is us with Senior Frog

They had a giant shell shop here, so we went over and got some shells for the girls. I only could find a few shells on the beach, really it seems like you can never find any. The girls really wanted some shells, so it was off to the shell shop. Glad I ran into it. We then went to a resort and had some relaxing down time.

This resort, use to be Kim's parents time share. It really was a nice place. Pueblo Bonita was its name. We sat next to the pool and just relaxed and watched the flamingos they had wondering around. I really would stay at this place. It looked fabulous ) We then got back into the fun wild taxi and went to one of Kim and Mike's favorite Mexican restaurants.

John took the picture. This is Kim and Mike my saviors in Mazatlan!

The restaurant was right on the beach, so the view was just beautiful! I was trying to order something small, but I got this huge thing pictured above! My big lava bowl full of stuff. If you know anything about me I am a picky eater! I admit it! I have a hard time with the texture/seeds of things and I just can't eat certain things without wanting to throw up! Now this was true Mexican food, and well I guess I am use to the American version. It had whole onions, tomatoes and peppers roasted, and this stuff that kinda looked like cheese, well not anything I eat. The meat was really good and so I ate that in my tortillas. I however wasn't a fan of anything else. I know the picky girl!

All done...

They had a mariachi band playing, so of course John had to take a picture.

We then jumped in another taxi, (take lots of dollars and fives) and we were off to see a very old Catholic Church. I think it was finished in 1897. It was beautiful. We wondered around the inside and looked at all the architecture. Again me the architecture junkie.

Such a beautiful church. The inside was full of gold leaf.

John and I in front of the Church.
After the church we walked to a flee market. This is where I really did most of my shopping. It was a huge place, not a lot of tourists in there, so it was off the beaten path. I found cute Mexican dresses for the girls, maraca's that the girls wanted, and I bought myself a pair of Mexican sandals. My one and only buy. In this flee market, they also had a open air butcher shop. Open as in flies all over stuff and oh the smell! I don't know if this place even had a refrigerator. There was a lady buying stuff in there. We got it on camcorder, but I didn't take any pictures. They had ever part that you could ever want in there. Even the full head of a pig. There were 3 heads in a row, the 3 little pigs. Oh it was gross. I sure wouldn't want to buy any of it. Oh how sick I think I could get! We then walked over to a Bakery/Restaurant called Panama. It is only in Mazatlan so if you ever get down there you have to go get something from the bakery. O my gosh I had this giant piece of Carmel cake with nuts in it. It was soooo good! It was probably the best piece of cake I have ever had. We walked over to this open plaza/park and ate our finds.

This is John and I in the plaza after we ate our fabulous desserts!
It was almost time to leave Mazatlan, so we hoped back into the taxi and we were off back to the pier. We decided to go in the flee market, on the pier, and were able to pick up a Nacho Libra mask for Jaden.
I had such a relaxing and wonderful time. Thanks Mike and Kim for making it such a great day!
Puerto Vallarta is up next..
